Midlothian, Ill. (WLS) — Baggy pants can still be a fashion statement in southwest suburban Midlothian.
Village officials have decided not to adopt an ordinance that would ban them.
Last summer, Lynwood enacted a law that imposed a $25 fine on anyone showing 3 inches or more of their underwear in public. Midlothian was considering a similar law, but Wednesday night, village officials announced that they had abandoned the idea.
Officials in Sauk Village are considering adopting the measure. They are awaiting the outcome on a similar case before the Illinois Supreme Court.

The fine in Jasper County for sagging calls for a maximum penalty of $500 and 30 days in jail. In other cities across the nation, including places such as Trenton, La., and Atlanta, Ga., there have been numerous proposed ordinances to ban the practice.
